Drawing Notes:

The soccer ball is a sphere usually made of leather. The solid five sided patches (pentagons) are surrounded by six sided (hexagons)patches to make the cover. It takes 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons to create a full ball. On our drawing you can see only the one full pentagon that is almost in the center. The remaining pentagons are only partially visible. The six hexagons that surround our central pentagon are all visible but not all of them are complete.

Fun Facts:

No one knows exactly when soccer was created, but the earliest versions of the game can be traced back 3,000 years.

Soccer is the most popular game in the world. In many countries it is known as “football”.

Drawing Notes:

This is an American football laying on the ground with the laces facing towards you. Notice how pointed the ends are that are pointing to the left and right. All NFL footballs have one long lace that is tied into eight cross stitches.

Fun Facts:

The rectangular field of play used for American football games (NFL) measures 100 yards (91.44 m) long between the goal lines, and 160 feet (48.8 m) (53.3 yards) wide with a midfield line at 50 yards.

In Canada, the CFL football fields are 110 yards (100.58 m) long and 65 yards (71.08 m) wide with a midfield line at 55 yards.

Drawing Notes:

This is an American football laying on the ground with the laces facing towards you. Notice how pointed the ends are that are pointing to the left and right. All NFL footballs have one long lace that is tied into eight cross stitches.

The football is drawn resting on one end like it would be if ready to be kicked. This is drawn as a solid with the two clear areas near the ends representing the stripes that are part of the construction. The lace area and seam are also depicted by the lack of dots in the area they would appear.

Fun Facts:

An American Football is the leather spheroid ball used to play the sport of American Football. The form of an American Football is a prolate spheroid which allows players to easily tuck it under their arm. It is typically made of cow hide leather giving it its characteristic brown color and has 8 white laces. An American Football has on its surface a pebble bump texture designed to make it easier to catch.

American Footballs have a short diameter of 6.68”-6.76” (16.9-17.2 cm) and length of 11”-11.25” (28-29 cm), resulting in circumferences of 21”-21.25” (53-54 cm) on the short axis and 28”-28.5” (71-72 cm) in the long. The mass of an American Football is between 14-15 oz (400-425 g) with a pressure between 12.5-13.5 psi (86.2-93.1 kPa).

A Rugby Ball is used to play Rugby and is passed through players with purpose of scoring a goal. Historically Rugby Balls were constructed from pig’s bladder. Rugby Balls have a short diameter of 7.27”-7.77” (18.46-19.74 cm) and length of 11”-12” (28-30 cm), resulting in circumferences of 22.83”-24.41” (58-62 cm) on the short side and 29.13”-30.31” (74-77 cm) across the length. The mass of a Rugby Ball is between 14-16 oz (400-450 g) with a pressure between 9.5-10 psi (65.7-68.8 kPa).
