Bus

By: Marie Porter
(Braillables: A Manual for Parents and Teachers
Copyright 1984 by The Catholic Guild for the Blind, Chicago, IL.)

Design is 5 Rows, 19 cells.

Note: Full size picture is the last full page of this document.

Begin design:

Row 1: space 3 times, dot 6, hyphen [36] fourteen times, dot 3.

Row 2: space 3 times, AR [345], full cell 14 times, WH [156].

Row 3: OW [246], P [1234], C [14], space 15 times, dots 456.

Row 4: space 1 time, V [1236], IN [35], colon [25], EN [26], hyphen [36] ten times, IN [35], colon [25], EN [26], dots 3456.

Row 5: space 2 times, E [15], hyphen [36], I [24], space 10 times, E [15], hyphen [36], I [24].

End design.

Marie’s drawing notes:

Row 1: This forms the top of the bus.

Row 2: This line forms the windshield, fourteen windows, and begins to draw the back end of the bus.

Row 3: This forms the lights, the nose of the bus, the body and more of the back.

Row 4: This finishes the front of the bus, the upper part of the front wheel, the bottom of the bus, the upper part of the back wheel and the back of the bus.

Row 5: Space twice and write e-i space ten and write e-i for the back wheel.

The bus is complete.

Drawing the bus employs some mirroring, but it depends more upon proportion, perspective, and attention to detail. The front of the bus is not the same as the back. This is a side view and the difference must be worked out so that the picture will be recognizable. This kind of drawing takes more skill and perception in seeing and doing.

Drawing Note:

Row 5 has been corrected.

Scooby, a dog.
