Drawing Notes:

The rose is on a stem with three leaves. The bud is leaning to the left and towards us. The stem starts at the bottom of the page. Proceeding upwards, the first leaf is on the left with a second, larger leaf above it. The third leaf is on the right. The stem proceeds upward to the base of the rosebud. There are three outside petals that form our rose, the largest is in the center. The petals in the center wrap around each other in a circle but you can only feel the tops.

Drawing Notes:

The rose has a solid stem leaning to the left with three leaves. As you explore up the stem, WATCH OUT FOR THE THORNS! This stem has six thorns, four on the left and two on the right.

Fun Facts:

Roses come in many different colors, shades of red, yellow, orange and purple. There are even white roses. Of the 100 or more species of roses, most have five or more petals. The thorns, or sharp spikes on the stem are technically called prickles.

The rose is the official National Floral Emblem of the United States. This legislation was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on October 7, 1986. The rose is also the state flower selected by Georgia, Iowa, New York, North Dakota, and the District of Columbia, which is not a state.
