Drawing Notes:

The phone is hanging on the wall on the left side of the page. Notice the back board is taller because there was a keyhole opening in the top to hang the phone. With the two large batteries that sat in the bottom of the phone, additional holes for hanging were concealed in the body.

Starting at the top, the first thing you will notice is that the face board is slightly raised above the box of the body. This was a slight frame because the front board was on a hinge with two fasteners.

Moving on down, you run into the bell on the face plate. The original phones had two of these side by side. Two rows below the bell is one of the fasteners that hold the face door shut.

Back on the side, you run into the earpiece hanging on the side. This earpiece hung on a hook that moved, it was the “on-off” button at the time. Next you feel the mouthpiece sticking out to the right. This was mounted with a swivel joint and could be angled somewhat up or down, depending on how tall you are. You had to speak directly into the end for the other person to hear.

The final piece at the bottom was a writing table. Every phone I have ever seen had this little table.

The house is pictured from the front. It has a sloping roof that tapers to a point in the middle. On the right half of the roof there is a chimney from which smoke rises. On the face of the house, two windows and a door with a door handle can be felt. Directly on the left wall of the house is a garden fence. The sun shines in the sky. Or is it the moon?

Drawing Notes:

This reminds me of the large clocks we had on the wall at school. Before there were digital clocks and watches, we had to tell the time by knowing were the hands pointed.

The little hand told the hour, and the big hand pointed to the minutes. Do you know what time this clock says it is?
