Drawing Notes:

Rows one through six form the top. Rows seven through fifteen form three sides of the dreidel.

This is three sides with points and the top of the finished dreidel. Notice that the dots form four squares that connect and have additional dots around the edges. The top square has a small circle in the center. You need to cut this open in order to insert a pencil thru this top that will extend out of the bottom when complete. The top has three tabs which will be used to fasten the sides to it.

Under the top is three sides. From left to right they contain the symbols known as “SHIN’, “HEY” and “GIMEL”. There are tabs on the left and right sides. Both of these tabs will be used to fasten the fourth block onto this drawing and to complete the assembly. The fourth block is on a separate page called Dreidel pt. 2 due to paper size. It contains the symbol known as “NUN”.

Fun Facts:

A dreidel is a square spinning top with a Hebrew letter on each side. The dreidel game is a favorite Hanukkah game. The Hebrew letters represent the meaning of this important Jewish Festival of Lights—a great miracle happened here.

GIMEL = Take everything

NUN = Do nothing

HEY = Take half

SHIN = Put one in

Drawing Notes:

this is the fourth side of the little dreidel and has the symbol known as “NUN” on the side.

Prepare the drawing for cutting. Since there are no tabs to worry about, this is an easier cut than part 01. Flatten all the dots in row 1, this should be the dot 6, hyphens and dot 3. Flatten all the dots 456 in cell one from row 2 to row 7. Flatten all the end or right-side L’s from row 2 to row 7. All these flattened dots will be cut off this design.

Start cutting.

Cut horizontally between the dots in row 1 and the dots in row 2.

Cut vertically between the dots in cell 1 and the dots in cell 2.

Cut vertically between the dots in cell 9 and the dots in cell 10.

Starting at left most dot 1 in row 7, (dot 1 in SH), cut along the outside (left side) of the CH cells past row ten.

Starting at the right side dot 4 in row 7, (dot 4 in M), cut along the outside (right side) of the ST cells past row ten. You should have a point at the bottom.

This block is now ready to be attached to part 1.

You will need a pencil to make your dreidel spin. Remember that hole you poked in the top? Push your pencil up through that hole to make a handle. Part of your pencil will be inside the dreidel, and the bottom of your pencil will stick out through the bottom.

Let’s Play Dreidel

Now that you have made your dreidel, gather some candies and invite three people to play with you.

Give each player an equal number of candies.

Put some candies in the “pot” or middle of the table.

Let the youngest player spin the top first.

Whichever letter is up, do what it says.

When one player has no more candies, the other three players must count their candies. Whoever has the most wins.

GIMEL = Take everything

NUN = Do nothing

HEY = Take half

SHIN = Put one in
