There are three articles and nineteen patterns on this page.

Introduction
The drawings on this page are small–small enough to be used on artist trading cards and the zines made by folding a single letter-size page into eight pages. (Directions below.)
Artist trading cards are two and a half inches by three and a half inches. These are decorated in many ways and traded with other artists.
The page size of the zine mentioned above is two and three-fourths inches by four and one-fourth inches. The pages can be filled with ideas, art, or both.

How To Turn A Single Page Into An Eight-Page Zine
Prepare: lay your paper on the table in portrait position. Make all creases very firm.
Step 1: Fold the left long edge to the right long edge (hotdog fold), crease, and unfold.
Step 2: Fold the top edge to the bottom edge (hamburger fold) and crease. (This is where you will start your cut in step 5.)
Step 3: You have two layers of paper, but you will work with one at a time.
Fold the bottom edge to the top edge (your crease from step 2) and crease.
Step 4: turn your paper over and repeat step 3.
Step 5: unfold the last two creases you made. Cut from the hamburger crease to the crease you just unfolded, cutting through both layers of paper.
Step 6: turn your page so that the hotdog crease (whichhas a cut in the middle) goes across the top. Take one end in each hand and push toward each other to fold your zine. You will have eight pages to draw on.
Have fun.

This is a cane which those who are blind use for getting around safely. It is white and often has a red tip.
The candy cane (or shepherd’s crook) shape is typical of a cane which does not fold.
Canes can be made out of different materials such as aluminum and resin.
Tips come in many shapes and are made from different types of materials including nylon. My favorite is the rolling marshmallow.
Tip: never grab a person’s cane!
Fun Fact:
The cane is white (often reflective) to make it easier for motorists to see.

Row 7: space 3 times, E [15], hyphen [36], I [24], space 2 times, E [15], hyphen [36], I [24].
End design.
Drawing Notes:
I call this a toy scooter as it was powered by a person, and not motorized as our other drawing of a scooter. This reminds me of the four wheeled version I had as a child where the front wheels were steerable by using the two handles.

Conclusion
We have other patterns which are small enough for zines and ATCs. Have fun trading your zines and ATCs with other artists.

Artist Trading Cards
Introduction:
An Artist Trading Card, also known as an ATC, is about the size of a deck of playing cards or the trading cards you get in a pack of gum (hockey cards or baseball cards). They were created by Swiss artist M. Vanci Stirnemann in 1997.
Artist trading cards are 2.5 by 3.5 inches in size, (approximately 62mm wide by 88mm long). Depending on the layout, they hold 9 rows by 10 cells of braille with the long side vertical or 6 rows by 14 cells of braille with the long side horizontal.
When drawing with Braille, knowing the center point of the drawing is necessary if you want to center the drawing on paper. Moving that center point on such a small piece of paper effects the size of the picture that you can draw. There are four center points in laying out a drawing. These are: 1- the center of a cell in both directions, 2- center of the cell horizontal and centered between rows vertical, 3 – center of the cell vertical and centered between rows horizontal, 4 – centered between both the rows and cells.
The four ATC Layout drawings found on this page are an attempt to explain these differences.
Note: all of the drawings which are small enough to fit on the “zine” pages will work with an ATC, but not all of the ATC drawings will fit on a “Zine” page.
A zine page is made by folding a letter-sized page into eighths.
Have fun sharing your ATC’s and your zines.

Row 11: dot 1, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1. These are cutting markers for the bottom.
End design for layout A.
Layout B makes an 8 row by 10 cell ATC. The center point is between row 16, cell 6 and cell 7, and row 17, cell 6 and cell 7. You have given up a row in order to move the center point of the card between rows and not in the center of a row like layout A.
Begin design for layout B:
Row 12: EN [26], HIS [236], hyphen [36], HIS [236], hyphen [36], HIS [236], hyphen [36], HIS [236], hyphen [36], HIS [236], hyphen [36], dots 23. All the dot 2’s in row 12, the dot 6 in cell 1 and the dot 3 in cell 12 are cutting markers.
Row 13: dot 5, L [123], space 8 times, dots 456, dot 2. (The dot 5 in cell 1 and the dot 2 in cell 12 are cutting markers for the sides of the ATC.)
Row 14: dot 5, L [123], space 8 times, dots 456, dot 2.
Row 15: dot 5, L [123], space 8 times, dots 456, dot 2.

Row 20: dot 5, L [123], space 8 times, dots 456, dot 2.
Row 21: I [24], F [124], C [14], F [124], C [14], F [124], C [14], F [124], C [14], F [124], C [14], dots 12. The dot 4 in cell 1, all of the dot 2’s in row 21 and the dot 1 in cell 22 are cutting markers.
End design for layout B.
Drawing Notes:
For me, it is very difficult to braille an ATC after it is cut to size, I prefer to create the drawings on a full sheet of paper and cut them down to size afterwards. This is the reason behind the cutting markers.
I do not always include the frame when I make an ATC so I have included cutting markers on the layouts. Although not perfect in size, I feel the resulting card is close enough in size. To cut out layout A, cut between row 1 and row 2 at the top and row 10 and row 11 at the bottom. These cuts should be as close to the frame as you care to get. There should be enough dots in row 1 to keep the scissors in between the rows. Then you cut the sides between the dots in cell 1 and the dots 123 in cell 2 on the left side. Cut the right side between the dots 456 in cell 11 and the dots in cell 12 on the right side.
To cut out the top of layout B, cut between the dot 2’s and the dots 36 in row 12. This leaves the dots 36 for the frame. To cut out the bottom of layout B, cut between the dot 2’s and the dots 14 in row 21. This leaves the dots 14 for the frame. Then you cut the sides between the dots in cell 1 and dots 123 in cell 2 on the left side and the dots 456 in cell 11 and the dots in cell 12 on the right side.

Layout E makes a 6 row by 14 cell ATC. The center point is between row 4, cell 8 and cell 9, and row 5, cell 8 and cell 9.
Begin design for layout E:
Row 1: dot 3, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3. (These are cutting markers for the top and not part of the actual ATC.)
Row 2: dot 1, TH [1456], C [14] twelve times, P [1234], dot 1. (The dot 1 in cell 1 in cell 12 are cutting markers for the sides.)

Row 11: dot 1, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1. These are cutting markers for the bottom.
End design for layout E.
Layout F makes a 5 row by 14 cell ATC. The center point is the center of row 6, cell 7, dot 2 and dot 5. You have given up a row in order to move the center point of the card between rows and not in the center of a row like layout C.
Begin design for layout F:
Row 9: dots 25, R [1235], colon [25], H [125], colon [25], H [125], colon [25], H [125], colon [25], H [125], colon [25], H [125], colon [25], H [125], dots 256, dots 12. The dots 15 in cell 1 and the dots 12 in cell 16 and all the dot 1’s in this row are cutting markers.

End design for layout F.
Drawing Notes:
To cut out layout E, cut between row 1 and row 2 at the top and row 7 and row 8 at the bottom. These cuts should be as close to the outer rows as you care to get. There should be enough dots in row 1 and row 8 to keep the scissors in between the rows. Then you cut the sides between cell 1 and cell 2 on the left side and between cell 15 and cell 16 on the right side.
To cut out the top of layout F, cut between the dot 1s and the dots 25 in row 9. This leaves the dots 25 for the frame. To cut out the bottom, cut between the dot 3s and the dots 25 in row 15. This leaves the dots 25 for the frame. Then you cut the sides between cell 1 and cell 2 on the left side and between cell 15 and cell 16 on the right side.

To cut out layout C, cut between row 1 and row 2 at the top and row 10 and row 11 at the bottom. These cuts should be as close to the frame as you care to get. There should be enough dots in row 1 to keep the scissors in between the rows. Then you cut the sides between dot 1 and dot 4 in cell 2 on the left side and between the dot 1 and dot 4 in cell 12 on the right side.
To cut out the top of layout D, cut between the dot 2’s and the dots 36 in row 12. This leaves the dots 36 for the frame. To cut out the bottom of layout D, cut between the dot 2’s and the dots 14 in row 21. This leaves the dots 14 for the frame. Then you cut the sides between dot 3 and dot 6 in cell 2 on the left side and between the dot 3 and dot 6 in cell 12 on the right side.

ATC Fourth Layout
By: Richard Hinkle
Design is 16 rows, 16 cells.
Note: Full size picture is the last full page of this document.
Layout G makes a 6 row by 13 cell ATC. The center point is between row 4, cell 9, dots 36 and row 5, cell 9, dots 12.
Begin design for layout G:
Row 1: dot 3 two times, space 1 time, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3, space 1 time, dot 3. These are cutting markers for the top and not part of the actual ATC.
Row 2: space 1 time, W [2456], C [14] thirteen times, P [1234]. The dot 2 in cell 2 and the dot 4 in cell 16 are cutting markers for the sides.
Row 3: space 1 time, W [2456], space 13 times, R [1235].
Row 4: space 1 time, W [2456], space 13 times, R [1235].
Row 5: space 1 time, W [2456], space 13 times, R [1235].
Row 6: space 1 time, W [2456], space 13 times, R [1235].
Row 7: dot 3, W [2456], hyphen [36] thirteen times, R [1235]. The dot 3 in cell 1 and the dot 5 in cell 16 are cutting markers.
Row 11: dot 1 two times, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1, space 1 time, dot 1. These are cutting markers for the bottom.
End design for layout G.
Layout H makes a 5 row by 13 cell ATC. The center point is the center of row 13, cell 9, dot 2 and dot 5. You have given up a row in order to move the center point of the card between rows and not in the center between rows like layout G.
Begin design for layout H:
Row 9: dots 12, OU [1256], colon [25], H [125], colon [25], H [125], colon [25], H [125], colon [25], H [125], colon [25], H [125], colon [25], H [125], R [1235]. The dots 12 in cell 1 and cell 2 and the dot 15 in cell 16 and all the dot 1’s in this row are cutting markers.
Row 10: space 1 time, W [2456], space 13 times, R [1235].
Row 11: space 1 time, W [2456], space 13 times, R [1235].
Row 12: space 1 time, W [2456], space 13 times, R [1235].
Row 13: space 1 time, W [2456], space 13 times, R [1235].
Row 14: space 1 time, W [2456], space 13 times, R [1235].
Row 15: dots 23, T [2345], colon [25], dots 235, colon [25], dots 235, colon [25], dots 235, colon [25], dots 235, colon [25], dots 235, colon [25], dots 235, R [1235]. The dots 23 in cells 1 and 2, the dots 35 in cell 16 and all the dot 3’s are cutting markers.
End design for layout H.
Drawing Notes:
To cut out layout G, cut between row 1 and row 2 at the top and row 7 and row 8 at the bottom. These cuts should be as close to the outer rows as you care to get. There should be enough dots in row 1 and row 8 to keep the scissors in between the rows. Then you cut the sides between the dot 2 and the 456 in cell 2 on the left side and between the dots 123 and dot 5 in cell 16 on the right side.
To cut out the top of layout H, cut between the dot 1’s and the dots 25 in row 9. This leaves the dots 25 for the frame. To cut out the bottom, cut between the dot 3’s and the dots 25 in row 15. This leaves the dots 25 for the frame. Then you cut the sides between the dot 2 and the 456 in cell 2 on the left side and between the dots 123 and dot 5 in cell 16 on the right side.
