Drawing Notes:
Once you have drawn this design, you will note that is like three separate drawings. The drawing on the left is a top view (bird’s eye view) of the carrier as it powers down the page. The full cell in row 6 represents the control tower. This is the starboard side of the ship on most carriers. Starboard refers to the right side of the ship when facing forward.
The two diagonal lines starting at the stern or back of the ship (top of page) are the launching strips that use catapults to shoot the planes into the air.
The two lines starting at the bow or front of the ship (bottom of the page) are the landing strips. These use arresting cables on the deck and have netting at the end to stop incoming airplanes.
The middle drawing is a side view of the carrier. As you go from top of the page down, the first bump on the right is the rudder to steer the ship. The first two bumps on the left represent a full-size helicopter sitting on the deck. The long bump on the left is the control tower.
The third drawing (on the right) is an end view looking from the front of the ship. The first bump on the left is the control tower again. The next two bumps (G and GG) represent the two helicopters from the front.
The smallest carrier is just 591 ft (180.2m) long. The largest is 1,100 ft. (335m) long by 252 ft. (76.8m) wide.
The 332.8 m-long supercarrier features a 4.5-acre flight deck capable of carrying more than 60 aircraft. Each ship towers 20 stories above the water and can accommodate 3,000 to 3,200 ship’s company, 1,500 air wing and 500 other crew.
The top of the carrier is the flight deck, where aircraft are launched and recovered. On the starboard side of this is the island, where the funnel, air-traffic control tower and the bridge are located.

Drawing Notes:
Starting at the top, the ring or shackle is for attaching the rope or chain. The main center part is known as the central shank. The next two arms are known as the stock, these are mounted at ninety degrees to the bottom arms.
The bottom of the anchor has two arms to hold the pointed ends. These ends are known as the flukes and can be a moveable point on some anchors.

The sailing ship is sailing from west to east or to the right side of the page. The sailing ship has two masts and two large sails. The ropes leading from the front mast to the bow of the ship could support more sails. The flag at the top could signify any country of origin. I believe the ship to be a two-masted English wooden schooner with three cannon slots (the circles) on each side.

Drawing Notes:
The lighthouse has a roof for the first three rows. The glass windows in row 4 and 5 house the large light that would shine out to sea. A cloud is to the right which might bring rain in the future.
After the light is the widow’s walk that circles the entire structure. Proceeding down the outside are two spiral bands. This is the outside paint as our lighthouse is white with a black spiral painted on it. Where the left side gets wider, there is one of the little windows that provide light to the spiral staircase inside that goes from the bottom to the widow’s walk. The bottom of the lighthouse has a door with a window on the left. The higher window on the right is partly up the stairs.
On the right is the caretakers house, a modest two story with a window in the attic and two windows on the first floor.
Fun Fact:
The widow’s walk is also known as a widow’s watch. The wives of mariners could watch for their spouses’ return. Many men who did not return left the women as widows.
