Drawing Notes:

This is a five pointed star. It is drawn using 5 lines and deleting the pentagon that is formed in the middle.

Start at the top and draw one line to the bottom left point and one line to the bottom right point. The third line is the horizontal line from the top left point to the top right point. Connect the top left point to the bottom right point for line 4. Connect the top right point to the bottom left point for line 5. You now have a smaller version of either star 03 or star 04.

If you remove the five short inner lines, (the pentagon), you create a hollow star.

Drawing Notes:

This is a five pointed star made with five straight lines. I used repeating patterns for each of the lines. The even rows have the same dots for the two vertical lines that start at the top. Rows 7 and 11 add stars where the lines cross, but the base pattern does not change. This holds true for the odd rows except for row 1.

Row 7 repeats except for cell 1 and cell 30. There are additional dots where the vertical lines cross.

The slanted lines are the two that start from the peaks of row 7 and cross each other to the peaks in row 19. Every row has the same pattern except for rows 18 and 19. Dots from all the patterns were removed to make nice points.

This is also a five pointed star. Although made from star 04, a different type of repeating pattern was used on the vertical lines to draw this star. You can see it in the top point and two bottom points but not thru the middle because the points are now solid for this star.

Drawing Notes:

Our drawing is a representation of a sheriff badge with a five pointed star as the center. Imagine the badge as having three layers, one between the outer edge and inner circle, one between the inner circle and the star and one being the inner star.

Can you draw this design in three separate layers? I would use white (silver) paper for the star, blue paper for the inner ring and red paper for the outer ring. Cut the white and blue paper to the shape, tape or glue them together and you have a red, white and blue badge.

A pretty little star. Note that each quadrant is a mirror of the one beside it, both horizontally and vertically.

Straw stars are very popular at Christmas time. They are often hung on windows or Christmas trees for decoration. Straw stars can have very different designs, but what they have in common is their flat, star-shaped structure. Our star has eight arms (the two horizontal lines belong together).

Fun Facts:

Straw stars are popular Christmas ornaments in Germany and Scandinavia.

They were usually made from dried wheat or rice stalks.

In Germany, they are called Strohsterne.

Drawing Notes:

Stars A and B are four pointed stars that are the furthest away in the sky. Star B is just a tiny bit brighter with the fifth dot. Star C is closer, brighter, and therefore heavier in its body. Star D reminds me of the Christmas star, large and bright with it points being very distinct. I think the addition of dots 4,6 and then 1,3 in the center cells of row 12 would make this star appear even brighter. Star E is a five pointed star and would appear at about the same distance in the sky as star D but maybe slightly dimmer.

Star E is definitely the hardest to draw. It is a good example as to why points are so hard to make in braille cells. Because this star is not symmetrical, it is more of a challenge to draw correctly. Moving the dot 5 in row 20 to a dot 6 helps the eye follow the inter point but I do not know if it really helps the fingers.

This is also a five pointed star. The same type of repeating pattern that was used in star03 was also used to draw this star. The even rows have the same dots for the two vertical lines that start at the top. Rows 7 and 11 add stars where the lines cross, but the base pattern does not change. This holds true for the odd rows except for row 1.

Row 7 repeats except for cell 1 and cell 30. There are additional dots where the vertical lines cross.

The slanted lines are the two that start from the peaks of row 7 and cross each other to the peaks in row 19. Every row has the same pattern except for row 19. Dots from all the patterns were removed to make nice points.
